Bring your own Gemini key

ZenAI calls Google's Gemini API directly from your Mac with your own API key. There is no ZenAI account and nothing to subscribe to. Google bills your account for what you generate.

  1. Create a key at Google AI Studio.
  2. Turn on billing for the key's project. Video (Gemini Omni Flash) has no free tier.
  3. Open ZenAI, choose Settings → API Keys, paste the key and click Test. It's stored in your macOS Keychain.

No key yet? Choose the fake provider in Settings to try the whole pipeline offline for $0.

What a video costs

Typical Google charges at the defaults, at list prices as of November 2026:

Plan (Gemini Flash)about $0.01
4 keyframes (Nano Banana, 2K)$0.20
2 loop candidates (Omni Flash, 8 s at 720p)about $1.62
6 music tracks (Lyria)$0.48
Render, 1–10 hours$0, on your Mac
Totalabout $2–3

Each project has a budget cap (default $10), and ZenAI asks before any step over $2. Google's invoice is the final word.

How it works

  1. Plan. Gemini turns your brief, or a picture you upload, into a scene, motion and music plan you can edit.
  2. Keyframes. Nano Banana paints still frames. Pick one.
  3. Loop. Omni Flash animates the keyframe back to itself. ZenAI checks the seam and upscales to 1080p locally.
  4. Music. Lyria writes instrumental tracks, which are loudness-matched and shuffled into a bed that never repeats in order.
  5. Render. A long-form MP4 with YouTube title, description and chapters, saved to Movies/ZenAI.
